For homeowners hiring a contractor, anywhere in Canada or the USRenovation quote and contract review, with experienced construction support through final payment
30+ years of experience in your back pocket. You hire the contractor. I back you up. I’m Matt Kinnee: 30+ years in construction, 25 of them running my own contracting company. I review the quotes and contract before you sign, check change orders and invoices before you pay, and walk the finished job with you before the final payment. All by video, photos and email, wherever you are.

An unbiased second opinion
I review. I don’t bid. I’m not trying to win your job, sell you a contractor or push you toward anyone. When I tell you a quote is fair, a change order is padded or a deficiency needs fixing before you pay, it’s the same thing I’d tell my own family. My only job is your side of the table.
Why trust Kinnee?
The proof is in the reviews and in 30+ years of solid performance: 25 years running my own contracting company, and today running sites as a superintendent. Homeowners have trusted me with their money and their homes for decades. Here’s what a couple of them said.

“The cost of his work was very close to his quote, and I could not be happier with the finished product.”

Where renovations go wrong
Most renovation money isn’t lost to bad workmanship. It’s lost on paper: a vague scope, allowances that were never realistic, extras priced after the work is done, payments that run ahead of progress, and a final payment released before the deficiencies are fixed. Those are the moments I cover.
Packages
Just need one quote checked? Written quote review: CA$195
Send me the quote and I send it back marked up, with a one-page summary and the questions to ask your contractor. Back within 3 business days. Comparing quotes? Each extra quote is $95. Upgrade to Before You Sign within 30 days and the $195 comes off the price.
Before You Sign: CA$495
I review up to 3 quotes side by side and do a construction-side review of the contract you’re about to sign. You get a written report (scope gaps, exclusions, allowances, payment schedule, how changes get priced, red flags) plus a 45-minute video call to go through it and the questions to ask each contractor. Delivered within 5 business days of getting your documents.
This is a builder’s review of scope, pricing and payment terms. It isn’t legal advice. For legal questions about your contract, talk to a lawyer.

Project Backup: CA$1,495
Recommended for most renovations. Everything in Before You Sign, then I stay with you through the job: a weekly overview (send me a quick update and a few photos each week, and I reply in writing with what to watch and what to ask next), up to 8 change order or progress-invoice reviews with a written answer within 2 business days, 3 check-in video calls at key milestones, and a live video walkthrough before the final payment with a written deficiency list. Includes the Renovation Money Tracker and Final Walkthrough Checklist. For projects up to 6 months.
Full Build Backup: CA$3,495
For additions, whole-home renovations and custom builds. Everything in Project Backup, with a weekly 20-minute video meeting for the length of the build (up to 12 months), up to 20 change order and invoice reviews, a schedule review, a photo review before walls and ceilings are closed in, and the final walkthrough.
Launch pricing for the first 5 clients. After that, Project Backup goes to CA$1,795 and Full Build Backup to CA$4,195.
Your $75 call or $195 written review counts toward any package if you sign up within 30 days. You’ll get a code for it in your follow-up email. Not sure which fits? Start with the call. I take on a limited number of projects at a time so every client gets real attention.

I’m on your side until the final payment
Written answers you can act on, calls at the moments that matter, and a walkthrough before the last cheque.
Questions
Do you come to site?
No. Everything is done by video call, photos and email, which is why it works wherever you live. For the final walkthrough, you walk the house with your phone and I tell you where to look.
Will my contractor mind?
Good contractors welcome a clear scope and documented changes. You stay in charge of the relationship; I don’t deal with your contractor unless you ask me to join a call.
I’ve already signed. Is it too late?
No. Project Backup still covers the part where most money moves: change orders, progress payments and the final walkthrough.
My project isn’t in BC.
The fundamentals are the same everywhere. Where rules differ, like permits, holdbacks or lien rights, I’ll flag what to check locally.
